Lucky Boy Combo
I am often asked if I have any placer claims with rich lode deposits (or mines) on the site… well folks, here is just that type of mining claim, in a very rich historic area with good backing geological data.
These claims are situated about 7 miles north of historic Idaho City. Lucky Boy (and surrounding) mine(s) were some of the most well known sites starting in 1867 and even well known through the early 1900s. Much of the ore work that was done, was largely free milling and sluicing the free gold, working just the exposed vein outcroppings. Directly on the claim, can still find the old foundations where this milling occurred. With these sites being largely untouched for many many years, the Forest Service has covered over much of the veins. Although you can still find these old cut ins, rails, and large quartz ore laying around the sites. As for the placer deposit, I have ran several 4 hour test runs across the placer deposits, and am extremely pleased by the results, finding hard pan & clay layers that don’t appear to be disturbed. Even in the below Geological Report, it is mentioned “Illinois and other gulches that head in this belt were very rich in placer gold”.

Additional Highlights: If you continue heading down NF 314E, for another 0.8 of a mile, this is the last major drainage that you will come to. There is a pullout at the end for parking or camping, and the road (for a vehicle), pretty much stops here. Yes, this could be cleared back a tad more for a larger staging and camping area, I just haven’t gotten around to it. And you can take an ATV further north up the road which connects into a couple other trails which eventually head up to the main NF 314…or you can take the loop to the southeast which takes you down the ridge above (to the east), of the parking area. As you can see from the placer map, it does encompass part of the upper Gambrinous Gulch to the east, where samples showed color as well. Back by the parking area, the old mill foundation is at around 43.8818000°N, -115.7730200°W, which is between the road and the creek. The old mine location is across the creek and up 100’ at around 43.8823200°N, -115.7723700°W, where you can see the old trench and some of the ore left behind. Besides doing a 4 hour run on the main drainage, another one of the samples I collected on the feeders was at the northwest corner of the Lucky Placer at around 43.8814600°N, -115.7749000°W (off the main road coming in, the gully between the two slash piles), which had 20+ colors in the pan. There is a road at the second slash pile which has been dug up (to keep trucks off it), that will take you all the way down to the creek on the lower portion of Lucky Placers. In early spring there is water in this main drainage, but towards late summer, it is touch and go. I’d recommend building a pond in the creek to work through the season longer.
The way that these mining claims are set up, there are placer claims encompassing portions of the lode claims. So these will be sold as a pair (the 20 acre placer claim downstream of the lode claim which is upstream on the vein).

Driving Directions: The claim is located 7.2 miles outside the historic town of Idaho City. Driving directions to the claim: from Boise, travel north on HWY 21 to Idaho City (approximately 34 miles from I-84). Turn left (north) onto Main Street in Idaho City. A couple blocks into town, turn right (north) on Bear Run Road (NF 314). At 0.9 of a mile, you will come to a major junction, where the main road heads left, but you want to keep right (or straight) on NF 314. At 1.8 miles (from Main street), there will be another junction, stay left on the main NF 314. You will stay on NF 314 for approximately 5 & ½ miles and make a right onto NF 314E. NF 314E is about 0.4 miles past the houses (with private property signs) that sits up on the ridge top. You will continue about a mile down NF 314E to the Lucky Boy claims, which is about as far as you can get a normal size vehicle into (the ATV road extends further past Lucky Boy).
