The Bruneau River, a tributary of the Snake River, runs through the steppes of south-western Idaho, cutting a narrow canyon from the surrounding lava rock. Known for it’s hot springs and recreational rafting, the 153-mile-long Bruneau River presents activities in addition to mining. The drainage basin of the Bruneau River is bounded by the Bruneau Plateau to the east, the Owyhee Mountains and Chalk Hills to the west and the Jarbidge Mountains to the south. Parts of the Bruneau River are associated with the Jarbidge Mining Area.
